Megan Nielsen

MSW

My name is Megan Nielsen and I am so excited to be at Hyde Park Therapy Associates as an MSW intern as I work on completing my Masters degree at USU. I will be practicing under the close supervision of Dana Jackson, LCSW. Having struggled myself to find a therapist I felt was the right fit for me, I am dedicated to creating a safe and trusting space for clients that is free of any judgment or biases. I believe that therapy can be a valuable resource to be utilized by individuals in any situation, and I strive to give each of my clients the skills to navigate the good, bad, and everything between with confidence and care. I am guided by a strengths-based perspective, meaning I choose to focus on a client’s unique and individual strengths and skills to help build a strong foundation for success.

I feel that education plays a crucial role in the therapeutic process and will always begin by ensuring a complete understanding for both the client and myself. I also believe in fostering an equal partnership. Clients choosing to work with me can expect to play an active role in the therapeutic process while we work as a team to ensure that each individual’s care is exactly right for them. I will bring elements of self-compassion, mindfulness, and motivation to each session and always meet you where you’re at.

In my work with clients I emphasize evidence based practices, and believe in viewing the person as a whole, including the emotional, physical, social, and environmental influences that each play a part in cognition and behavior. I have extensive experience working with OCD and anxiety and am proficient in guiding clients through exposure and response prevention techniques. I have also worked successfully with individuals of all ages experiencing different degrees of religious scrupulosity, depression, anxiety, emotional regulation issues, and people just looking for an unbiased and nonjudgmental ear. I would love the opportunity to help you navigate any of life’s changes and challenges.

I am committed to providing competent care to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and identities.
